In-session PBL activity:
We're going to walk you through a PBL assignment – so find a partner.
- Consider the problem statement: Traditional U.S. higher education is not preparing students for the 21st century workforce. Please note – this statement is presented without context or 'sentiment' because that's part of PBL!
- Now – working with your partner, change this statement into a question. [Share the questions you create at www.pollev.com/shelleyblundell ]
- Now that you have a question as opposed to a statement, you can put together a strategy for answering it.
- With your partner, create three strategies (e.g. research, interviews, etc.) for finding answers for the question you have created.
- Be sure to include in this strategy pros/cons, for/against, etc.
- Once you have determined your strategy, decide how you will share your answer to the question publicly.
- Will it be a presentation?
- Will you write a position paper?
- Something you do solo or in partnership?
- Finally – how do you feel this process, from start to finish, would be most appropriately assessed?
- Would you create a rubric that assigns grades for all parts of assignment?
- If you do this, how do you determine whether it was completed 'correctly' or 'incorrectly?'
- Would you create a checklist of tasks completed, and consider skills attainment within this task list as worthy of grading?
